GOTTA HAVE IT - Silk Unsweetened Almond Milk
My family is definitely not what I would call "milk drinkers." I think out of all of my immediate family only my mom and oldest brother Jason actually drink it by choice. The rest of us would if it were made with "chocolate". I remember when we were kids we used to buy 2% milk and then my mom tricked us by "watering" it down with skim milk. I think that is where my hatred for milk began. We did add milk to our cereal however I love my brother Aaron's idea of using a fork to drain as much milk as possible before it hit our mouths. I still drain my cereal to this day and you will never see me drink that milk at the bottom of my cereal bowl. However this year we have come across a yummy alternative to milk. Since my husband, myself, and our boys are all a bit lactose intolerant and the thought of soy milk freaks me out we decided to try almond milk. And boy was I surprised at how yummy it was. And with only 35 calories for one cup to the 90 calories in a cup of skim milk I need all the help I can get to cut calories!! ;) So I haven't been daring yet to try almond milk with cold cereal but here is what I use it for so far: Patrick's Protein Shakes, Health Shakes for the kids and me, I substitute it for the milk thats called for in my whole wheat blueberry pancakes, banana almond milk oatmeal, etc.
Yummy Kids Health Shake
2 cups Silk unsweetened almond milk
4 T Nesquik less sugar of no sugar chocolate powder
Banana or cup of strawberries or my kids like both added
(Note: I am still looking for a healthier alternative (something with less sugar, no artificial ingredients, or chemicals) than Nesquik but when I was reading labels Nesquik seemed to have the least amount of weird ingredients compared to other chocolate powders with added vitamins(- What the heck are these chemicals in our foods and drinks???)
UPDATE: I just tried this Unsweetened Almond Milk on cold cereal today, Cheerios to be exact, and it was great!!! Now I dont have to buy regular milk yahoo!!! By the way if you are wondering about the calcium this Almond milk has 50% more calcium than regular milk.
